This article covers reverse records for VPS SSD, VPS ON, Dedicated Servers, and Cloud. If you want to set up DNS records (except PTR records), follow the instructions in DNS – Domain Records.
In this article, you will learn:
Reverse Records
Reverse records are commonly set mainly for mail servers, as they are used to verify the identity of the sending server.
The recipient of the email usually performs the following check:
- They find the reverse record for your server's IP address (for example, they resolve 46.28.106.11 to wes1-mx1.wedos.net).
- They resolve the found name back to an IP address again – that is, the A record for the relevant domain (wes1-mx1.wedos.net to 46.28.106.11).
- They compare the results of the lookups. If the server IP address and the DNS record match, the email usually gets through; otherwise, the recipient's server may reject it.
With this procedure, the recipient verifies that the name in the reverse record has not been spoofed. In theory, you can enter any domain name into a reverse record even if you have nothing to do with it. However, only the owner of that domain can set the reverse lookup of that name to an IP address.

Add IPv4 reverse records to the service:
Add IPv6 reverse records to the service:

For IPv6, append the last part of the required IP address and enter the record value.
You can gradually add multiple records for one IP address.
If you need to edit or delete a reverse record, use the magnifying glass or cross buttons in the reverse records overview.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it enough to verify the server by entering only the reverse record?
No, in addition to reverse records, also set the corresponding A and AAAA records on the relevant domain.
Where can I enter PTR records?
Instead of PTR records, enter reverse records using the method described above.
How do I enter a valid IPv6 address?
Servers and Cloud usually have an entire IPv6 range assigned. However, a reverse record must be in the format of one specific IPv6 address. Set the required address on the server and in DNS, then enter it into the form. The field may start with a colon, for example for an address in the form 2a02:2b88:2:1::1.
