This article applies to the VPS SSD service. VPS ON has the KVM interface available from the administration of ON SunStone ⧉.
In this article you will learn:
- How VNC works and what the alternatives are
- How to obtain VNC access credentials
- Which VNC client to use
- Frequently asked questions
Access to VPS via VNC
VNC is a protocol that enables remote KVM (Keyboard-Video-Mouse) access. This access is not dependent on the server operating system, so it is available even in the event of a crash; it allows booting from CD/DVD and access to the BIOS.
VNC access is not intended for everyday use, but mainly for solving emergency situations in the event of an operating system failure or when installing an operating system from CD/DVD. Working with the server is more convenient in the usual ways:
- SSH for servers with the Linux operating system
- Remote Desktop for servers with Windows
Obtaining VNC access credentials
To connect to your server, you need the target address, port, and password. You can find the details in the email with information about the setup of the virtual server or in the server details in the customer administration.
You can obtain lost access credentials by following these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Server Services VPS SSD/HDD.
- In the overview, select the service for which you want to obtain the access credentials.
- In the service detail, copy the address and port of KVM(VNC) from the Technical parameters table.
- In the left menu, select Change KVM password.
- Enter and confirm the new password. The change will take effect within 15 minutes.

VNC client
To access the server via VNC, you need a client installed on your computer.
VEDOS does not provide its own VNC client and cannot guarantee the functionality of third-party clients.
- For Windows, we recommend using TurboVNC ⧉ or VeNCrypt ⧉.
- For Linux, we recommend TurboVNC ⧉.
- For Mac OS, we recommend TigerVNC ⧉.
Communication via VNC is encrypted (VNC over SSL, SSL version must be 3.0). The client used must support such communication.
For SSL we use a certificate named vm.wedos.net. The certificate fingerprint is:
SHA1 Fingerprint C8:C2:23:33:45:9D:2C:44:F4:3A:CE:9C:71:4B:B0:E1:3B:8F:5C:FD
Frequently asked questions
What should I do if I need to change the root password?
Customer support can resend the service setup email based on a request submitted via the form ⧉, where you specify the VPS name. If you changed the password after the VPS was set up, we cannot restore it for you on our side.
How do I deal with VNC client errors?
We do not provide support for VNC clients. Check the availability of the server and port, for example with the telnet command. If the system is not available this way, check whether the service has expired/is turned off, whether maintenance is in progress, or whether a technician has notified you of a network disconnection due to the server being compromised.
