Webhosting - WordPress

Want WordPress with minimum hassle? Try the Hosting WP ⧉ service! You can find full help for this service at this link.

The WordPress content management system and its templates or plugins are generally not VEDOS services and our customer support does not apply to them.

In this article you will learn:

WordPress on VEDOS Webhosting

The popular content management system (CMS) WordPress is popular among both amateur and professional website creators thanks to its intuitive administration and rich selection of free and commercial templates and extensions (plugins). VEDOS optimizes its webhosting plans specifically with this content management system in mind, so that both beginner and professional websites run fast and without problems.

You can run WordPress on Webhosting with any plan and on the WMS service. WordPress is not compatible with the WebSite 1.0 service.

Installing WordPress on Webhosting

You can install WordPress on Webhosting manually or using the application installer.

Manual installation

Manual installation is necessary for the LowCost webhosting plan, where we do not provide the installer. Follow these steps:

  1. On the WordPress website ⧉ (external link), download the required version of the application.
  2. Name the extracted folder with the installation files after the domain name (without www, e.g. domena.tld) and upload it via FTP to the www/domains directory.
  3. According to the instructions in Webhosting – Databases, create a new database for WordPress.
  4. Enter the domain in the address bar and complete the installation.

Automatic installation

Automatic installation is supported on Webhosting plans NoLimit and Extra, as well as on WMS.

Detailed instructions for automatic WordPress installation can be found in the article Webhosting – Application Installer.

Common issues

Common issues with WordPress on Webhosting include:

Application installer error

Problem: An error occurs when installing using the installer on Webhosting or WMS.

Solution: Common installer issues are addressed in the relevant chapter of the guide Webhosting – Application Installer.

Administration is not available

Problem: I can't log in to the WordPress administration.

Cause: WordPress administration, including the one installed by our installer, is completely separate from the WEDOS customer administration. It may use a different login email and password.

It is also common for the administration link in the form /admin or /wp-admin to stop working.

Solution: If the administration link in the form domena.tld/admin does not work, try entering domena.tld/wp-login.php, where replace domena.tld with your domain.

WEDOS customer support does not have access to the WordPress administration. Restore a lost password using the “Forgot your password?” link on the login screen.

An error occurred while connecting to the database server

Problem: The error message An error occurred while connecting to the database server. is displayed.

Cause: You will most often encounter this error after changing the password for the database administrator account.

Solution: Make sure that the database used by WordPress exists and that the wp-config.php file on FTP contains current connection information for this database, including the username and current password.

If the connection information is correct, check WEDOS Status ⧉ to see whether an outage is in progress.

Media upload error – temporary directory does not exist

Problem: Media cannot be uploaded, the error message Temporary directory does not exist. is displayed.

Cause: The FTP root directory is missing the tmp folder for temporary files.

Solution: Log in to FTP using the main account and check that, besides the www folder, the tmp and session folders are also present. If they do not exist, create new ones.

Undefined function

Problem: The website does not work, and an error message starting with Fatal error: Call to undefined function. is displayed.

Cause: The WordPress, template, or plugin version is not compatible with the PHP version.

Solution: Check the requirements of the system, templates, and plugins and set a PHP version they support.

Another issue

Other common issues and their solutions can be found in the community guide WordPress: Broken website ⧉. If even this article does not solve your specific issue, try searching for the issue on the Help forum ⧉.
