Common problems

Common problems with installing a prepared OS on VPS ON include:

OS is not in the offer

Problem: The operating system I need to run on my server is not in the image offer.

Cause: We only provide selected versions of the Linux operating system. We continuously expand the list.

Solution: Install the OS from your own source according to the guide VPS ON – Connecting your own ISO and installing the OS.

Stuck VM

Problem: When working with disks or during shutdown/startup, the VM got stuck and is showing an unusual state.

Cause: In some cases, startup or shutdown may take longer than usual (on the order of minutes). In other cases, it may be a system error that needs to be resolved on our side.

Solution: Wait a few minutes. If the problem persists for tens of minutes, or the VM enters an unusual state that cannot be resolved by restarting, contact support ⧉. Provide the service number or name and the action that immediately preceded the freeze (for example, attaching a new disk).

Non-functional root password

Problem: The root password that arrived in the service setup email does not work, or no password was delivered.

Solution: Follow the instructions in the chapter Setting the root password in ON Sunstone. If the PASSWORD parameter is not in the table, add it.
