WebMail - Deleting Emails

This article covers deleting email messages through the WebMail ⧉ interface. If you want to keep emails and increase email capacity, follow the guide Emails – Increasing mailbox space.

The screenshots were taken in the new Elastic template. If you use the older Larry template, follow the text instructions, or change the template at least temporarily according to the manual.

In this article, you will learn:

Deleting emails to the trash

When you delete emails normally, the messages are moved to the trash, where they remain (and continue to take up space) until you empty the trash.

First, select the emails you want to delete. You can use the following methods:

  • Select with the mouse. If you hold down Ctrl, you select each email you click. If you hold down Shift, you select the pair of chosen emails and all other messages between them.
  • Select menu. Through this menu you can select all (the complete contents of the folder), the current page, unread emails, emails marked with a flag, emails that are not selected (invert selection), or clear all selections (the none option).

Once you have selected the emails, click the Delete button in the top bar, or press the Delete key.

Emptying the trash

To empty the trash, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the WebMail ⧉ client.
  2. Select Trash in the menu.
  3. In the folder, select the emails you want to remove from the trash.
  4. Click the Delete button in the top bar, or press the Delete key.

You can empty the Spam folder in the same way.

Items emptied from the trash/spam are completely removed from the server by the system and the space they occupied is freed up. They can only be restored from a backup.

Automatic trash emptying

You can have the trash emptied automatically every time you log out of WebMail. Proceed as follows:

  1. Click the Settings button.
  2. In the menu, select Properties and then Server settings.
  3. For Empty trash on logout, select the type of messages you want to remove from the trash.
  4. Click the Save button.

Common issues

Common problems with deleting emails in WebMail include:

Short message list

Problem: Too few messages are displayed on one page, making sorting inconvenient.

Solution: Click Settings in the upper-right corner, then Properties and Mailbox display in the left column. In the Rows per page field, set the number of messages the client displays on one page and confirm with the Save button.
