DNS - Add Domain

This article explains how to add a domain to WEDOS DNS if there are no records for it yet. Domains with VEDOS services can have WEDOS DNS set up automatically. To check DNS records, follow the guide DNS – Domain Records.

Adding a domain to WEDOS DNS has no effect until you set our DNS servers for the domain according to the guide Domains – DNS Servers (NSSET).

In this article you will learn:

Adding a Domain to WEDOS DNS

Domain management and the service name in the customer administration allow automatic addition of a domain to WEDOS DNS. You can verify the existence of the domain in WEDOS DNS and its status by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
  2. Click DNS in the top menu.

If you do not see the domain in the list, add it manually.

Automatic domain addition

In the following cases, you can have the domain added to WEDOS DNS automatically:

Automatic WEDOS DNS setup is usually checked automatically in these cases. If you do not want to add the domain to DNS, uncheck it.

Domains added to DNS automatically usually have DNS records prefilled. The system automatically points the domains themselves to the default page, and hosting services to the corresponding Webhosting, Mailhosting, or WebSite.

Automatic addition of a domain to WEDOS DNS by transferring the domain or by creating and modifying hosting services does not change the domain's DNS servers (NSSET).

Manual domain addition

To add a domain to WEDOS DNS, follow these steps.

  1. Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
  2. Select DNS in the top menu.
  3. Select Add domain to DNS in the left menu.
  4. Fill in:
    • Domain name: enter only the second-level domain name (without www or other subdomains, e.g. wds-test.cz). This field is required.
    • Type: if you want to manage DNS with us, leave the option set to primary.
    • Template: when adding a domain to DNS, you can have records automatically filled in according to a prepared template. This field is not required.
    • Primary IP: the IPv4 address of the server from which the domain's records are downloaded; works only for a secondary domain. This field is not required.
  5. Check the consent box and click the add domain button.

Bulk domain addition

For bulk addition, first prepare a template for pre-filling DNS records. Then proceed as follows:

  1. Select Bulk domain addition in the left menu.
  2. On the page Domains to DNS – add – step 1/3 add domain names to the list. Press the continue button.
    • If you want to overwrite the settings of an existing domain (e.g. created automatically), check the option delete already existing domains in DNS and create new ones.
  3. On the page Domains to DNS – add – step 2/3 select the prepared template, check the consent with the terms, and click continue.
  4. On the page Domains to DNS – add – step 3/3 review the entered information and click Finish.

DNS Templates

DNS templates are used to quickly fill in the DNS records of a new domain. They are especially useful when adding domains to DNS manually or in bulk.

You can find the template management interface by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
  2. Select DNS in the top menu.
  3. Select Templates in the left menu.

In this interface, you can add new templates and manage existing ones.

In templates, you can use the placeholder string (domain), which the system replaces with the domain name when applied. For example, when the template ftp.(domain) is applied to the domain wds-test.cz, the resulting record will be ftp.wds-test.cz.

The system applies templates to DNS only once – editing a template has no effect on domains created earlier through that template.
