The system sends the authorization password exclusively to the domain owner's email address.

The message usually arrives within a few minutes after being requested. If you do not see it in your inbox, check the SPAM folder. If it is not there either, try requesting the password from another browser.

Requesting the password directly from the registry

Some registries allow requesting the authorization password directly from their websites. These are:

Bulk request for sending authorization passwords

Domain contact authorization password

In some cases, instead of the domain authorization password, you need the domain contact authorization password. These are two different items; the domain authorization password does not work for the domain contact, and vice versa.

When entering the authorization password, pay attention to the instructions whether you should enter the domain password or the domain contact password.

Send the contact authorization password by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
  2. Select Domains from the top menu.
  3. In the left menu, select the registry and within it the contact Authorization Password item.
  4. Enter the contact identifier and fill in the verification text.
  5. Click the Send authorization password button.

Common problems

Common problems with sending an authorization password include:

The domain is not in the customer account

Problem: We cannot see the domain whose authorization password we need to send in our customer account.

Cause: The domain is in another customer account, with another registrar, or it expired and the system deleted it.

Solution: If the domain is active and registered with us, use the instructions Domains – Transfer between accounts using an authorization password. The authorization password sent this way can be used not only for transferring between accounts, but also for the purpose for which you originally requested the password.

The password does not arrive

Problem: The sent authorization password does not arrive.

Solution: Wait. If the password does not arrive within fifteen minutes of sending, verify that you are checking the domain owner's mailbox and not another one (for example, the billing one - it may differ). If the mailbox is correct and the password still does not arrive within 15 minutes of submitting the request, try requesting the sending from another browser, or directly from the registry (CZ.NIC, EURid only).

Unavailable email

Problem: The email address to which the authorization password is sent is unavailable.

Solution: Follow the instructions for resolving an unavailable domain owner's email.

The authorization password does not work

Problem: When entering the authorization password, I get an error message saying the password is not valid.

Cause: The password may be expired (because its validity period has ended or it was used elsewhere), or it belongs not to the domain but to its contact.

Solution: First check that you are really using the domain authorization password and not, for example, the authorization password of the corresponding domain contact. If you have had the password sent multiple times, make sure you are entering the most recent one.

Frequently asked questions

We received an authorization password without requesting it. Is someone trying to steal our domain?

Some authorization passwords can be requested by anyone (including an unregistered user), for example as part of a domain transfer. It may be a typo or a mistaken belief that domain transfer is the same as change of owner. Our system sends the password only to the domain owner's email. If you have it secured, domain theft by abusing the authorization password is unlikely.

If you are concerned about domain theft, consider its insurance ⧉. The service includes IT and legal assistance.
