EWM - Activation and Basic Operation

This article explains how to activate the EWM add-on service and how to use it in basic mode. More information about individual tests can be found in the article EWM – Tests, and the instructions for scheduling maintenance windows and managing status pages are described in EWM – Maintenance windows and status pages.

In this guide, you will learn:

EWM extension

Early Warning and Monitoring – EWM ⧉ is an add-on service for a domain. It is used for continuous monitoring of the availability of services running on the domain and for sending warnings in case of limitations or even service outages.

The service is offered in three plans – Start, Professional and High Availability. Detailed information about the tests performed by each variant can be found on the WEDOS EWM product page ⧉.

By default, the service includes the tests we recommend, but you can adjust them within the selected plan. More information can be found in the chapter Manual test setup.

Extended testing options independent of the domain are offered by the WEDOS OnLine ⧉ service.

You can activate EWM directly in the domain order or in the customer administration.

Activation in the domain order

In the domain order ⧉, activate EWM with these steps:

Based on the color of the service label, you can quickly determine the status of services on the domain:

Running and successful tests are marked in green. There is no problem; the server is running properly.
Running tests with a warning are marked in yellow. The server is running, but may have a slower response, for example.
Running tests with an error are marked in red. The server is not responding, or the test is not configured correctly.
Paused tests are gray. The test has been created but is paused.
Unconfigured tests are not displayed. You must set up the test manually.

Manual test setup

For some tests, automatic setup is not available at all; for others, you may want to fine-tune it. To access the test settings, click the blue details button. Fill in the required settings and save them with the green save changes button.

Some tests are based on DNS records of the domain. To start the test, it is enough to create the given record; the EWM service will start the test automatically as soon as it detects the new record.

In the Settings Monitoring settings menu, you can change:

  • Interface language and time zone,
  • E-mail addresses for delivering errors and warnings,
  • turning warning or outage notifications on or off for all tests.
