This article deals with increasing the parameters of the VPS ON service. If you want to increase the parameters of VPS SSD, follow the guide VPS SSD – Parameter Increase.
In this article, you will learn:
- How VPS ON parameter increases work
- How to perform the increase
- Common problems
- Frequently asked questions
Increasing VPS ON parameters
Increasing VPS ON parameters allows you to independently change the number of processor cores, RAM size and SSD within the given limits. The system allows the following parameter ranges to be set:
- Processor cores: 1 to 4
- RAM memory: 0.5 to 16 GB
- SSD disk space: 5 to 480 GB
CPU performance is normally shared in a 1:3 ratio. As part of the increase, you can activate dedicated processor cores for the given VPS only.
The system does not support decreasing VPS ON parameters. The increase process is therefore irreversible for the given VPS ON.
Performing the increase
Before increasing the parameters, do the following:
- Expect a server restart. Make sure all services start correctly on the server after the restart.
- Ensure you have a backup. No data loss occurs during the increase itself, but we have recorded cases of damage caused by unprofessional interventions during or following the increase.
Then proceed with the following steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Server services VPS ON.
- Select the service you want to increase from the list.
- In the left menu, select Increase variant.
- Use the slider to set the target parameters and confirm with the Increase variant button.

System restart
After completing the increase in the customer administration, perform a complete shutdown and startup in the ON Sunstone interface using these steps ⧉:
- Shut down the server using Power Off.
- Undeploy the powered-off server using Undeploy.
- Start the undeployed server with the Resume button.

You can find detailed instructions for performing the restart in the guide VPS ON – Server Restart (reset).
File system check
If you are increasing the disk, check whether the file system was increased correctly.
- On a preinstalled OS, the increase should happen automatically. If it does not, follow the instructions in the Common problems chapter.
- If you use your own OS or LVM, increase the disk on the server manually.
Common problems
Common problems with increasing VPS ON parameters include:
- The increase on the server did not take place
- The system got stuck in an error state
- The file system increase did not take place
The increase on the server did not take place
Problem: The system still shows the original parameter values.
Cause: A common cause is an insufficiently thorough restart.
Solution: Perform a hard reset of the server in the ON Sunstone administration according to the System restart chapter. Any other restart is not enough.
System stuck in an error state
Problem: The system has been stuck for more than 10 minutes in the PROLOG_FAILURE, EPILOG_FAILURE, or similar state.
Solution: Contact us via the form and request a check. Include the name or number of the VPS ON service, the situation that led to the error (for example, shutdown after increasing parameters), and the error state.
The file system increase did not take place
Problem: On a preinstalled OS, the file system increase did not happen automatically.
Solution: Increase the disk on the server manually. More information and instructions can be found in the community article VPS – File System Enlargement.
Frequently asked questions
Can you make the operating system settings for me?
No, we do not interfere with operating systems on VPS ON.
Is it really necessary to perform a restart with undeployment? Won't it damage my files?
Make sure the system is shut down first, and then undeploy it. This minimizes the risk.
