You can use a domain owner change when you are transferring the domain to another person or company, or when you are changing your own name or company name. When changing the e-mail or physical address of the current domain owner, it is enough to edit the domain contact.

The domain owner change will be reflected only in the domain registry. If you are transferring the domain to someone else, we recommend that in addition to the owner change you also update the billing information and move it to the correct VEDOS customer account.

Before you start the owner change, make sure that the new owner has a domain contact created in the VEDOS administration with the relevant registry. As a rule, you can use an existing domain contact with the same extension, or create a new contact. In both cases, write down the contact identifier, which is usually made up of letters and numbers, sometimes separated by hyphens.

If you have the identifier of the new owner’s contact ready, log in to the VEDOS customer administration and open the domain owner change interface:

  1. In the navigation bar, select Domains.
  2. From the list, select the domain whose owner you want to change.
  3. In the left menu, select Owner Change.

The owner change process itself depends on the domain extension.

A CZ domain requires very strict authorization of the owner change. You can complete it online by verifying the e-mail addresses and phone numbers of both the original and the new owner. In that case, enter the owner identifier, in the Method of confirming changes section select The change is confirmed by both the original and new owner using e-mail and SMS, check the consents, and click the Create request button.

The system will send an e-mail with a verification link and an SMS with a code at the same time. Enter the SMS code into the corresponding field on the link, and then fill in the authorization password for the domain contact. You can have it sent from the administration, or directly from the CZ.NIC registry.

After entering the verification details, check the consent and click the Confirm request button. Once both the original and the new owner successfully complete this action, the owner change in the registry will usually take place within a few tens of minutes.

If the original owner’s phone number is unavailable, edit the domain contact and try the online owner change again.

If the original owner’s e-mail is unavailable, complete the owner change by request with officially certified signatures. You can have the request sent to any e-mail address, print it out, sign it, have it officially certified, and send it by post to the VEDOS address, which you will find directly in the request text.

For other domain extensions, starting the owner change process requires only entering the domain authorization password. You can have it sent directly via the send password link. The information will be sent to the e-mail of the original domain owner. If this e-mail is unavailable, contact customer support by clicking the life ring button in the domain detail. Provide the domain name and a functional e-mail contact. After sending, wait until the VEDOS authorization department contacts you. The usual response time is within 1 business day.

For EU, SK, and PL domains, entering the correct authorization password ends the owner change process. The update in the registry usually takes place within a few tens of minutes.

To complete the change of a generic domain, follow the instructions sent to the e-mails of both the original and new owner. In the e-mail, simply click the link and confirm the request. If both parties confirm the change within 5 days at the latest from submitting the request, the update in the registry usually takes place within 1 hour.
