This article covers domain redirection, i.e. changing the address to another domain. If you want to point a domain to a specific service, follow the guide Domains – Redirect to services.
Basic domain redirection does not work with the HTTPS protocol. If you want to redirect a domain over HTTPS, follow the instructions in the chapter HTTPS redirection via WEDOS Protection or the article Webhosting – Redirecting a domain with HTTPS.
In this guide you will learn:
Website redirection
You can redirect a domain to another website in two ways, each with its own advantages and disadvantages:
- Redirect via the customer administration is very easy to set up, both for the main domain and for all subdomains that do not have their own DNS record. However, this redirect itself does not work with the HTTPS protocol and can only be set for domains registered with us.
- Redirect via webhosting can work with the HTTPS protocol and can be set for any domain or subdomain. However, setting it up requires an active webhosting service with aliases (NoLimit, NoLimit Extra variants). The setup itself requires editing files via FTP.
Basic website redirection
Basic website redirection in the administration will take effect within 1 hour if set up correctly.
Before setting it up, make sure that the address you are redirecting to does not redirect back to the original domain.
Before setting up the redirect in the customer administration, make sure that:
- The domain is registered with VEDOS.
- The domain uses our DNS servers.
- You are not linking to the redirected domain address anywhere with the https:// protocol.
Then proceed with these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Domains.
- Select the domain you want to redirect from the menu.
- In the left menu, select Redirect settings.
- In the WWW Redirect box, enter the address you want to redirect to.
- Click the Set up redirect button.

If you want to cancel the redirect, point the domain to a service, or edit the DNS manually.
HTTPS redirection via WEDOS Protection
If you want the redirect to work with HTTPS as well, you can use one of the features of the WEDOS Protection ⧉ system. Follow these steps:
- Activate the WEDOS Protection add-on service on the domain.
- Set up the domain’s DNS records according to the instructions in the WEDOS Global administration ⧉.
- Set an ALIAS DNS record for the domain with the same data as the CNAME record named * or www.
- After activating the service, check that the domain has the Target IP address set ⧉
46.28.105.4.

With this setting, if a user enters the redirected domain in the form https://..., the redirect will work and will not end in an error. However, the entire redirect process is not encrypted, which is why you see the HTTPS warning next to the redirect server IP address.
HTTPS redirection via Webhosting
Instructions for redirection via Webhosting can be found in the article Webhosting – Redirecting a domain over HTTPS.
Email redirection
Always redirect emails to a mailbox on a different domain.
If you need all emails for a domain to be routed to one mailbox, set up a domain catch-all according to the instructions Emails – Domain, permissions, limits.
You can redirect emails:
- From a domain registered with VEDOS. For this option, you do not need web or email hosting; an existing email mailbox on another domain is sufficient. The system redirects all emails sent to any address (mailbox) of this domain to the specified mailbox.
- From a hosting mailbox. This redirect option affects only one specific mailbox instead of the entire domain. Instructions for setup can be found in the article Emails – Mailbox redirection.
Redirect from a domain
Email redirection in the administration from a domain will take effect within 1 hour if set up correctly.
Before setting up the redirect, make sure that:
- The domain is registered with VEDOS.
- The domain uses our DNS servers.
Then proceed with these steps:
- Log in to the customer administration ⧉.
- In the top menu, select Domains.
- Select the domain you want to redirect from the menu.
- In the left menu, select Redirect settings.
- In the Email Redirect box, enter the address you want to redirect to.
- Click the Set up redirect button.

If you want to cancel the redirect, point the domain to an existing service, or change the MX DNS records manually.
Redirect from a mailbox
Set up the redirect directly on the mailbox of the Webhosting service (incl. WMS), Mailhosting, or WebSite according to the instructions Emails – Mailboxes.
Common problems
Common problems with basic domain redirection include:
Website redirection not working
Problem: Instead of the redirected website, an error message is displayed.
Cause: Most often, this is caused by entering the original domain address with https, which basic redirection does not support. Some services, including browser address bars, automatically add it to links.
Less often, there is a conflict or redirect loop, when the new domain redirects back to the old one. This situation is usually indicated by the error message TOO MANY REDIRECTS.
Solution: Check whether you are entering the redirected domain address with HTTPS. Our redirect server does not support this protocol, so if you need to redirect over HTTPS, follow the instructions in the chapter on HTTPS redirection using WEDOS Protection, or Webhosting – redirecting a domain over HTTPS. Also check that the domain you are redirecting to does not redirect back to the original domain.
Redirected emails are not arriving
Problem: Redirected emails are not arriving in the target mailbox.
Cause: Most often, this is caused by the target mailbox being set on the domain you are redirecting from. In other cases, anti-spam mechanisms prevent delivery.
Solution: Check the SPAM folder.
If you receive the error message mail for domena.tld loops back to myself, make sure that the domain is not sending emails to itself.
Frequently asked questions
How do I redirect a domain to myself, but with www, or to another subdomain of mine?
You can set up such a redirect only via webhosting according to the instructions Webhosting – redirecting a domain over HTTPS.
How do I redirect a domain over HTTPS?
Follow the instructions Webhosting – redirecting a domain over HTTPS.
How do I redirect a subdomain?
Basic redirection redirects all subdomains that do not have their own DNS records. If you need to redirect one specific subdomain, use the procedure for redirecting over HTTPS.
How do I redirect emails for a domain whose DNS is elsewhere?
Make sure it contains only one MX record with the address mxredir.wedos.net.
Is it possible to set things up so that emails from a domain go to multiple email addresses?
Not in the customer administration, but you can forward mail from the target mailbox (from the administration or using email client filters, including WebMail).
